Akari – The Art of Light by Isamu Noguchi
Akari means light in Japanese—both illumination and lightness. In 1951, sculptor Isamu Noguchi created a series of light sculptures in Gifu, Japan, using traditional washi paper and bamboo ribbing. Today, more than 200 Akari designs exist, including iconic models like the UF floor lamp and 55A pendant—each handcrafted to Noguchi’s original specifications. Celebrated worldwide and featured in leading museum collections, Akari lamps blend timeless Japanese craftsmanship with modern design, offering a soft, warm ambient glow for any space.
